Aquiring a Testimony

My friend recently gave a fireside to the youth in our church about how to obtain a testimony (a knowledge of eternal truths). As a lawyer, she likened it to the courtroom--very interesting. Who are you Discussing with?

I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, often informally referred to as the Mormons. I have been a member all my life. My mother is a convert, and as such, has taught us the importance of searching for answers to our questions as we learn truth for ourselves.

I begin this blog with a talk I recently gave in church about faith--the first principle and ordinance of the gospel of Jesus Christ--which is a compilation of my studies on the subject. As you come to see what I understand "faith" to be, I believe you will understand my motivation behind this blog. To go directly to this entry click here.

I have set up this blog with a two-fold purpose. (1) To answer, to the best of my limited ability, any questions you may have about my faith, and (2) to grow in my own personal knowledge of truth through discussions with you. I welcome discussion from church members, investigators, and non-members alike. Questions do not need to be specifically directed toward gospel and church doctrine, but may simply be any basic question you may have about life or eternal principles.

I begin this blog with some reluctance, as I recognize my many limitations. I am still young and very fallible, so I may not have all the answers to your questions, but will try my best to study them out and share freely my personal views on each topic. Please be patient with me. I am a very busy mother and have only a limited amount of time to devote to this blog. My children and husband, and their needs, take priority over this blog. Consequently, it may take me some time to find a free moment to post or respond. But, as we study various topics together, I hope that we will all learn and grow together, while searching for and discussing eternal truths and principles. Feel free to offer your own answers to the questions of others, remembering to show respect, as we are all on this journey together.

Please only post sincere questions and avoid contentious debate. This blog is not here for debate, but rather, to facilitate opportunities to learn and grow together. If I feel that a comment has been posted for a contentious purpose, I may remove the comment without addressing it. If I do so in error, please feel free to repost the comment, rewording so I may better understand its purpose.

I share my views with recognition that these are my personal views, as guided by the gospel principles I have studied throughout my life. My understanding of these principles is a work in progress and is not official church doctrine, nor should it be viewed as such. My hope is that this blog will be used only as a personal discussion forum to help us all grow, develop, and learn from each other as we each strive to discover truth for ourselves.
